Major Axes Of Brain Function

(1) Vertical:

Top (cortical) = pre-motor / controlled action / internal processing of external stimuli that verifies the stimuli and plans an appropriate response to the stimuli with regard to environment, judgment, morality, social rules, social status, & hierarchy.

vs.

Bottom (sub cortical) = neural brain function / uncontrolled, primitive, autonomic response to stimuli / automatically activates other areas of the brain in response to external stimuli.

(2) Longitudinal:

Front (anterior) = motor action (movement, manipulation)

vs.

Back (posterior) = sensory processing (interpretation, comprehension)

(3) Transverse:

Left = language (verbal)

vs.

Right = non-language (non-verbal)

Transverse: Longitudinal Quadrants

Anterior = Motor Output
